I look like a hero now at my firm because it only took me a little while to figure out the way around our frustration with an inability to highlight documents with Adobe Acrobat -- urgently needed today and the rest of this week for a bunch of exhibits in a contentious arbitration. Thanks to Ernie, I've downloaded the right plug-in and am saving the day right now.
The fact that this problem exists, however, should really embarrass Adobe. And the workaround appears to be klugey and sub-par (e.g. the fonts on the newly "captured" document are slightly different than on the original, as in crappy OCR scanned documents).
The ability to find an answer from fellow practitioners online (when the Adobe site did not make the answer easy to find) reminds me of my fond old days as a network administrator, when I was astounded at the speed a listserv bounced back the answer to a query about Novell.
