I hate hate hate to run out of dogfood. It's an unreasonable overreaction I have whenever I do -- I feel like I'm a bad person, a lousy provider, a disappointment, etc. So a few years ago after I came home somewhat late from work and found that I had run out of dogfood, after I blazed to the convenience store and gotten dinner taken care of, I went out and bought a HUGE tupperware bin and about 75 pounds of dogfood and came home and set the bin containing a three month supply of food up under my counter so I would never run out of dogfood again. People think it is a little strange but I'll tell you, it makes me feel reassured in a funny way, and I don't regret the overkill. I fill it back up when it's down to half or 1/4 full. Not obsessively -- sometimes it gets down to the last couple of crumbs, and I've run out on occasion since implementing the system. But that happens a lot less than it otherwise would have. I have a less dramatic but still strong dislike of running out of toilet paper, so again I overcompensate and buy packages of, say, thirty-six rolls at a time for my one small bathroom. And there's a small comfort in noticing that, great, no danger of running out any time soon. Overcompensating works for me in this arena.
For a few weeks Housemate and I were running out of eggs in the middle of the week, which was an irritation because when you feel like an egg it's nice to be able to have an egg, but you're not going to make a special trip to do it. So I upped the ante and decided we should buy 18 eggs at a pop. Our cup runneth over with eggs. It's a good feeling.
do eggs ever go bad? even if they're refrigerated?

Eggs do go stale and eventually bad, even when stored in the fridge (which they always should be)? The mark of a stale egg is that the white does not hold together tightly but rather is watery and spreads out broadly when the egg is opened onto a plate plate.

Yes, I have siwtched to 18 eggs at a time, as well, given my propensity to make souffles and omelets. Some day soon, I shall make a custard.
