After two and a half hours of climbing my hands are red and sore and my forearms are tight as can be but my mood is really good. I fumbled around in the bouldering part of the gym (no ropes, only your hands and big mattresses to fall on, which I did a lot). I basically made no headway and all these sinewy people were hanging upside down like monkeys and stretching impossible distances and swinging. It was really cool, just being nearby, even though I kept reaching for the same handhold and falling down again and again. But when I went back to the ropesy part of the gym lo and behold I was better, stronger and a little bit bolder about stretching and grabbing and hanging on. It was noticeable, and satisfying. I feel a long way from capable and strong but like I will be able to make rapid and clear advances each time I go. It's going to take a long time to learn this and I am quite fascinated by the pursuit. Will have to go back later in the week.
And I've returned to a house that doesn't intimidate me as much as it did this morning. After writing my whiney post I pruned the rosebushes and Housemate's boyfriend tamed some hedges and we ripped down a falling-over fence. And the mown lawn looks really nice, and the petunias and pansies I planted on Friday are smiling at me from their containers, and it's sunny and green and who cares if the place is ramshackle in some ways. I'm getting there, a little at a time.
this is such a great cute post :)
