List 1: A Few Regrets
* I should have studied classics in college because when else, really, am I going to read that stuff. Or philosophy. Now I have to wait until retirement. Which seems too late.
* I should not have given up coffee. We've discussed this.
* I should have put my foot down with my stubborn boyfriend that time my cousin needed a place to stay for an unknown duration.
* There are a lot of times I should have put my foot down with that stubborn boyfriend, actually.
* I should have bought that fabulous silver dress when I saw it, instead of fussing about the price. It wasn't that much, and it was truly fabulous, and I've never again found something that looked like that.
* I should have asked for the number of that man with the kind sparkly eyes who danced with me when I was volunteering at the Center for Cultural Exchange during that festival.
That's all I can think of right now. I considered for inclusion, and rejected, a lot of other stupid decisions I've made, dumb things I've said, risks I've taken, and blind alleys I've gone down. Somehow those don't feel like regrets, even though they didn't work out.
List 2: Bad reasons That I Will Decide a Guy is Un-dateable.
* Too young.
* Carries too many keys.
* Can't spell.
* Has facial hair.
* Vanity license plate.
* Shaves his arm hair.
* Digs classic rock. Or Jimmy Buffet.
* Thinks of food purely as fuel.
* Has kids. Or more than one cat.
* Doesn't look waitresses in the eye.
There are lots more reasons I decide people are undateable but those are the really senseless ones. Although I think probably "doesn't look waitresses in the eye" is a good reason, not a bad reason.
[UPDATE: I should clarify that just because I decide someone is "undateable" doesn't necessarily mean I wouldn't date him. I just fret about it endlessly.]
Ack! An appreciation of classic rock, I believe, demonstrates a fine taste in music.

Wow...I don't know how young "too young" is, but if that's not one of them I've only got one -- classic rock. Better than I usally fair on these lists. Too tall a problem?

Other than too young, I think the rest are good reasons.

How do you figure out "too young"? Do you have an absolute age, say 25? Or is it based on the differences between your ages, like 4 years is OK but not 7? Or are you just considering a person's general maturity and not actual age? I'm curious b/c I'm 24 but generally date older women. Partly that's b/c I'm usually younger than my classmates but mostly b/c I find women my age immature.

"Thinks of food purely as fuel" is a good reason. Do you really want to be with someone who can't appreciate a summer tomato and never orders dessert?
