Bought the Old 97s latest, Drag it Up, yesterday, and I have not yet been disappointed. I think it deserves a long night of driving around so I can listen to it in the dark humid air. But in the first song their distinctive bass line comes stomping in threatening to start a bar fight and Rhett Miller starts wailing "I was born in the backseat of a Mustang on a cold night in a hard rain...." and singing about compact cars and how could I not like that?
Also, I may not have mentioned it, but when I pledged to Maine Public Radio this time I requested The Essential Johnny Cash as my thank you gift, and it is in fact essential.
I think I heard that on WRSI on my way home yesterday.

How would you say this compares to older old 97s? I really like Wreck Your Life and Too Far to Care more than their more recent stuff...

I picked it up recently as well. Meh. I got an old Son Volt, Wide Swing Tremolo , at the same time. That one I can't stop listening to.
