Yesterday morning was first frost. Today I wore my down jacket. It was perhaps overkill, but I was comfortable. The morning was dark dark, with the faintest bruise-purple showing over the east. As the sun rose the formation of clouds near the horizon looked even more like a bruise -- a smear of yellowish purple, with pink in the middle. As we walked along Shoreline Road the sky was reflected pink in the still water, and you could see a faint bit of mist rising from the sea.
I love the Fall, and enjoyed your description.
I can't help but feel happy early in the morning in the Fall. It's much better than Summer. For some odd reason I even prefer cold winter mornings (and they're really cold where I am) over summer mornings. But Fall is best of all.

I moved to California a month or so ago to attend law school. I miss the fall (I'm from the midwest) so your descriptions are especially great for me this season. You seem like such a neat woman. I'm taking a sailing class in part because of the stories on your blog! Thanks for writing. . .

It's still in the 80's here in Sacramento but morning and evening can be cool til the day warms up so have to bundle up and then layer down as the day gets warmed up. Have the leaves turned yet? Sheila
