You know those pits in the floor in the Prompto or Jiffy-Lube bays? I’m always afraid that I’m going to screw up and drive my car into the pit. It's irrational, because the pit is pretty narrow compared to the wheel base, and there's a protective rim around the edge of the pit, so you'd have to really screw up to drive into it. But I still get nervous about it. Today as I was being directed in by the oil change guy I could see one of the guys who was working in the pit. He was standing on a ladder or something so just his head was visible, poking up from the pit, about 6 to 8 inches above floor level. He stayed there, unconcerned, while I pulled forward, now afraid not only that I was somehow going to drive into the pit but also that I would kill someone, by literally running over his head. The oil change guy kept waving me forward, his face bored and expressionless. The head disappeared from view under my car as I rolled over the pit.
Nothing bad happened, except for the fact that they told me my engine leaks oil, and my dipstick is broken. But I didn't drive into the pit or kill anyone, so that's good.
I couldn't help but laugh when I read this.
:o)~ I have a similar fear of those 'drive your car through yourself' automatic car washes. Scared to death I'll drive off the tracks so I always made my husband cash in the free car wash tickets. lol
