Ouch... that's a good reason to use SPF 30. Good sun protective clothes and hats help a lot...and they don't need to be constantly re-applied. I use some Columbia gear that is rated at SPF 50 +. You'd be surprised at how UV transparent most clothes are, especially once they get wet.

Ouch! I used to get that rash from the stuff with PABA in it. Is that what they use with the higher SPF?? Same thing.. rash on tender skin.. well actually rash where I would sweat.

I've noticed that the chance of getting a rash from sunscreen goes down as the price goes up. You hardly ever see PABA any more, since it does cause so many bad reactions, but some of the other ingredients seem to be pretty bad, even in products that are supposed to be "hypoallergenic" or "for sensitive skin" or "for babies."

A good hat is a must ;)

i am highly allergic to paba, as i discovered when i was 8 years old. If you do get a rash from paba in sunscreen DO NOT SCRATCH! i scratched and then scratched my face and ended up with a lovely staff infection they caught just in time to save my life. if you have sensitive skin or just want to stay on the safe side i recommend Ocean Potion sunscreen SPF 30.works great for kids and adults. Remember, tanning oil/lotion also may contain PABA! DO NOT use it unless clearly stated on the bottle it says PABA FREE! Ocean Potion tanning oil is Paba free so thats your safest bet. have some safe fun in the sun!
