6+11=18?

turboglacier

6 FJs + 11 Larks + 1 powerboat driven by the coach = 18 boats?

Scheherazade

6 Larks + 11 FJs + 2 motorboats + 1 dog = 18 boats. Duh.

I'm in the athletic department, not the math department.

AdriftAtSea

6 Larks + 11 FJs + 2 motorboats + 1 dog = 18 boats.

Sherry-that's 19 boats and a dog...

LM

i dunno about the number of boats, but that's one fantabulous photo. i love it! :)

Pat

Ummm, a sailing purist might not count the motorboats. Or some might count fat, tubby cruising boats as dogs. Unless the dog was a real dog, i.e., canine sailing companion. And when you get that many boats on the water, counting gets harder. Were they all on the water at the same time or about the same duration?

Since this is Sherry's blog, she gets to decide what type of math to use and what to define as a "boat".

And, what if Lila decided she wanted her own boat, and it was not a dog even if it was a dog of a boat from the performance standpoint with a dog as crew. Then, worry if Sherry starts driving around with a bumper sticker that read, Dog is my Middle/Tactician.

turboglacier

1 sailboat = 1 boat.
1 powerboat = 1/2 boat.
This makes perfect sense to me.

Carol Anne

I like turboglacier's arithmetic.

To heck with the math, how about a picture of the dog in the boat.

Tillerman

How amazing that one-line comments on a topic as banal as simple addition can be so revealing of each writer's personality!

Carol Anne

Even the comments that go beyond one line can be revealing ... Do you know how often I have had to tell Pat to just shut up and sail?

Pat

Of course they don't; they haven't sailed with us and Carol Anne wouldn't tolerate the weight of a video camera on her boat. But, we do encourage sailors to escape dreary winter for sunny southwestern sailing.
