Days like today, just walking out the door of my house fills me with delight. The dog and I went for a morning ramble with the sun coming up, and the sky-blue-pink clouds sort of dappled and low and soft, and the whole neighborhood smelling like an afternoon sail to an island.
Two more good things about my law firm:
1) the windows here open and so I get the seabreeze at my desk. (Maybe this shouldn't count as a good thing -- just the absence of the bad things some of my contemporaries report: no windows at all, or windows that don't open up.)
2) The parking garage where I park has the secret best view in Portland. I always park on the 8th floor, at the tippy top edge of the ramp. From there you can see the islands, the harbor, the bay, the rooftops of all of the brick buildings, and in the other direction the cove, and far beyond at the horizon on a clear day, snow covered Mt. Washington. I get out of my car, spin around in all directions, and think "I can't believe I get paid to park here!" Sometimes I even let out a little yee haw.
