It's payday, so I always check that my 401(k) contribution went in and all that. While noodling around thinking about money I tried this calculator about paying for college, who knows why.
Since I don't have a kid yet, (or even a boyfriend of longer than 3 months) I'm not going to have a kid anytime soon. So I put down that my hypothetical kid will be starting college in 22 years. Tuition at my alma mater is currently $39K and change.
I need to save $525 a month from now on for a kid I don't know whether I'll ever have in order to pay for his or her college education. Yowza. Might be do-able when my own loans are paid off in 16 years or so, but v. difficult today.
Yes, but if you assume your child will have their own student loans...
