One of the things I get to witness because of the amount of bankruptcy work I do is the sheer power of human denial. People whose companies, or personal finances, are hurtling towards a dismal failure can pretend that's not true for a really long time. Even banks stick their head in the sand way more than I ever imagined. I don't know if it's wonderful or tragic, the ability people seem to have to believe that something magical will come along and save them if they just pretend everything's fine.
I guess the ones for whom it ends up wonderfully are not the people who end up in my office.
