The Whiz

I'm a lifelong sailor. I like to race sailboats more than just about anything else. The boats I most like to race are relatively small, and made for racing. My boat, an Etchells, is a bare bones racer -- there's no cabin, no bunks, no storage spaces. Certainly not anyplace built for a woman to pee. And proper hydration is, of course, essential to athletic performance. On the Hooked on Tonics we favor Miller Lite in the handy, reclosable, stay-cold shatterproof plastic bottles.

So for years I've wished I could pee standing up. I'd pick that over, say, X ray vision or a Batmobile. I've been hearing about this gadget called the Whizzer. This morning I decided to Google it, thinking it might make a nice gift for the Hooked on Tonics girls (in addition to our team uniforms -- black tank tops with rhinestone martini glasses on them). It's kind of a tough thing to Google. And there are some pretty unsavory results to some of the queries that might come to mind.... But with perseverance I did locate theWhizzy and the Travelmate. Think I'm going to invest in the TravelMate.

UPDATE: REI.com also offers the Sani-Fem Freshette. Is it me or is that a silly name?

Hey, I went to school at Orono for five years. It gets so cold there you don't need to use a bottle. Everything freezes.

I always like to sail gently in the harbor near Isle a Haut where the only racing was with the seals.
