I am having dinner with a male friend tonight and am suddenly concerned that it might be perceived as a date. This is something I wish to sidestep.
[UPDATE: How unprofessional of me. If you wish to read a blog loaded with romantic intrigue, may I direct you to This Fish. She's got much more going on than I do, and writes about it with humor and candor. I, meanwhile, will mostly be trying to keep my darn trap shut.]
Tell the male friend exactly what you told us.

Why not talk about your love life? Isn't that as much a part of your life as your walking? Let's hear all about it.

Put me in the column of fans that love hearing about your life (including love life). But, please note, if I were the male in question and an avid reader of your weblog, I would really hate getting this particular message through this medium, rather than loud and clear from you directly.
Also put me in the column of guys who want too know ASAP if there is no romance in the future.

Awful awful awful, but very well written and very funny. I would have said how tough for you not having any place to stay for night. What a presumptuous ass he is or was.
