You never get the full story when you're reading a published opinion, but there are times the facts of a case are really truncated -- generally when the issue at hand is a procedural one. So sometimes these wild facts are sort of summarily recited before the judge gets down to the good stuff: "On May 28, 1997, the Debtor left his home town of Ogden, Utah and went to Las Vegas because he had received death threats." precedes a longer discussion of just how the Debtor did or didn't maintain his business records.
