Living with an art school student is instructive. Yesterday Housemate told me about a "performance art piece" called Identical Lunch where the whole point of the piece is the consumption of the exact same sandwich every day. I had no idea this kind of thing would be considered work or art. Here's a little more about the piece. I guess the "viewer" of the "piece" is the one who is supposed to eat the identical lunch. I am afraid that you'll all be exposed to my provincial, ignorant ways but I can't help saying that I just don't really groove on this kind of artwork. [Note incredible restraint in my non-use of quotation marks around the word artwork.]
Although, come to think of it, I'm working on a piece of my own, called, "Substantially Similar Lunch." I guess Alison Knowles was something of an unknown influence on me. but I'm headed downstairs for the usual egg salad roll up and cookie. Viewers are welcome.
Since I generally eat the same lunch everyday as well, I'm tempted to tell people I'm an "attorney/performance artist" - hell, there are several things I do that can be considered performance art if I think about it.
If there's an NEA grant involved, maybe I can even ditch my day job!
