I started this blog a year ago tomorrow. I'd had two Blogger experiments before this one, beginning in the spring of 2002, but neither one held my interest all that long.
Blogging has become a habit for me in the past year. I think it's a good one. It's taught me a lot and it's made me much more aware of the thoughts that cross my mind all the time. I've been thinking about what I've learned from doing it. Yesterday in the professional responsibility class a student introduced herself to me after class. "I read your blog every day." Another student mentioned a post from last April in the class discussion. This kind of thing happens more and more -- people I know in one context mention the blog. It's become a small extension of my identity. I've been thinking about that phenomenon, and how I feel about that.
I've decided to mark the anniversary by not posting for a while -- at least several days, maybe a week. I want to see what it feels like to stop.
I'll leave you with a couple of posts I like -- this one by my mom, about seeing an old shoe on the road, and this one by Jeff Jarvis, about a much more important anniversary than the origin of this blog.
Happy anniversary! I had a nice little break from blogging then discovered I liked it after all and wanted to keep going. Hope you do too!

As a reader from fairly early in your blogging life, I can say with confidence that the world is a better place with your voice in it.
Keep up the good work (and lack thereof)!
Cheers,
Dave

I too have followed this site from early on. I started my own blog on the first year of law school, but found I couldn't keep up with the Buffalo Wings and Vodka-humor and other sites. It was also pointed out to me that blogging is, in fact, too personal. I would end up straying into deeper water and pissing off my friends/family. Your site keeps a good balance -- I still wonder, though: Does the bartender who never passed the bar think highly of his portrayal in print? Would he rather keep that part of his life private? Does writing to the world about a hike/sail change that event forever -- no longer as personal? That said -- thanks for writing.

Oh, fine. Go off into blog rehab. But did you ever think that this forces your readers to go cold turkey. Perhaps the scheme is becoming clear: the first year was free, but now.... :-)
