As I have more and more photos on my computer, I need to learn a few things. I notice that when I go to upload a photo, or attach one in email, my computer whirs and hangs for a long time. I think this is because of the processing required to display up to 200 thumbnails, which is how my pictures appear when I browse through my folders to select one. I would prefer to have the folders just display filenames, because when it's time to attach or upload a photo I have already previewed it in Picasa and know which one I'm aiming for. I know how to change the "view" choices in the folder menu, from "thumbnails" to "detail" or "filename". But the problem is I can only do that AFTER the computer has stalled for a few minutes loading all of the thumbnails. I can change the way files are displayed after that, but when I close the attachment window, the change doesn't stick -- so next time I open a window to attach a photo file, I get the hangtime again and the photos displayed as thumbnails.
Can you tell me where to find the default settings, so when I navigate my files, photos are displayed as filenames instead of as thumbnails? The delay is starting to really clog things up, and I anticipate this will only get worse with time.
